This case study covers a Sky Q satellite dish installation we completed after a Sky engineer had refused the job. The issue wasn’t the equipment—it was the access and the lack of clear line of sight. Large trees directly in front of the property blocked the standard dish locations, making a normal installation impossible.
The customer was told the service could not be installed, but with a different approach and specialist equipment, we were able to complete the job successfully.
Site Survey
When our engineer attended the property, a full survey confirmed the problem. Every standard mounting position was obstructed. From ground level and from a normal wall-mounting height, the trees blocked the path to the satellite.
Because Sky engineers must follow strict limits on height and access, they were unable to take the job any further. However, with alternative mounting methods available to us, we assessed higher installation points to see what would clear the obstruction.
Our Solution
To achieve full line of sight, we installed a Sky Q-compatible dish on a mast positioned above the roof line. By raising the dish high enough to clear the trees, we restored a clean path to the satellite.
The mast was securely fixed, and the dish was aligned with precision to ensure the correct Sky Q signal strength and quality levels. Once aligned, all readings showed strong, stable performance.
Result
The installation was fully successful, providing the customer with:
- A Sky Q dish mounted high on a mast to avoid tree obstruction
- A clear and unobstructed line of sight to the satellite
- Signal levels locked and fully compatible with Sky Q
- The Sky Q service the customer had previously been unable to receive
This was a job that required a non-standard solution, but the results were exactly what the customer needed.
Our Final Say
If your Sky or satellite provider has refused an installation due to height, access, trees or poor line of sight, it doesn’t necessarily mean it cannot be done. We regularly complete installations using chimney mounts, high masts, gable mounts and alternative positions that fall outside the limitations of standard providers.
If you’d like one of our satellite engineers to assess your property and provide a workable solution, we’re always happy to help. In many cases, the right mounting point is all that’s needed to make the installation possible.
