Freeview TV Aerial Replacement During Stormy Weather
This case study covers a TV aerial installation carried out during severe stormy weather. When we arrived at the customer’s home, their existing aerial was dangerously loose, hanging over the gutter and blowing around violently in the wind. The customer had completely lost their TV signal and the aerial itself posed a risk to the property.
Despite the poor conditions, the priority was to make the aerial safe and restore the customer’s Freeview service as quickly as possible.
Initial Inspection
Our engineers assessed the property and quickly found the main issues. The aerial bracket had failed, leaving the aerial unstable and swinging freely in the high winds. The coaxial cable had also been rubbing against the roof tiles—a common problem—resulting in water getting inside the cable.
Water ingress in coax cable can not only cause picture break-up but can eventually reach the TV, which is something we always aim to prevent. Given both the safety risk and the total signal loss, the job required urgent attention.
Can We Fix It?
Fortunately, two engineers were assigned to this installation, which was essential for safety given the weather conditions. Working together, they were able to position the ladders securely, stabilise themselves and carry out a safe inspection at height.
After reviewing the state of the bracket, cable and aerial, it was clear that repairing the existing equipment simply wasn’t viable due to the damage and water exposure. A new aerial setup was the only reliable option to restore the customer’s TV service.
We Fixed It
Despite the wind and rain, the engineers safely removed the damaged equipment and installed a brand-new Freeview aerial. They also replaced the water-damaged coax cable and fitted it securely so it no longer rubbed against the roof tiles or guttering.
Once the new aerial was fixed in place, the engineers carried out full signal tests to ensure the customer received a strong, stable Freeview service. Everything tested perfectly, and the customer’s TV was fully restored.
The installation left the aerial secure, weather-safe and positioned correctly so that future storms won’t cause the same issues.
Result
The customer received:
- A new Freeview aerial safely installed during storm conditions
- Water-damaged cable removed and replaced
- A secure mounting free from movement and rubbing points
- A fully restored and reliable TV signal
Most importantly, the aerial was made safe immediately, protecting both the customer and the property.
Our Final Say
Storms can expose weaknesses in older aerial systems, causing equipment to become loose, unsafe or water-damaged. In cases like this, a fast response and a safe, professional repair are essential.
If your aerial is loose, damaged or swaying in the wind, our engineers can assess the problem, replace any worn parts and ensure everything is securely fixed—even in challenging weather conditions.
