This case study shows how one of our engineers solved a difficult Freesat reception problem by thinking outside the box. We were called to a log cabin on a park where the customer had no satellite signal. From the ground, it looked like a straightforward job—but the location proved otherwise.
After inspecting the area, it became clear that the log cabin was completely blocked by trees, leaving no standard mounting point with a clear line of sight to the Freesat satellite.
Site Inspection
During the survey, the engineer checked all normal dish positions on and around the cabin. Every angle was obstructed by heavy tree coverage. Without line of sight, a dish simply cannot receive a satellite signal.
Instead of giving up, the engineer walked the surrounding area to search for a higher or alternative location. After checking multiple spots, he found the only place where the satellite path was clear—a banked area behind the cabin, with a tree that looked suitable for a specialist mount.
Fixing the Problem
Once the engineer confirmed the signal position, he mounted the Freesat-compatible satellite dish directly to the tree using secure external fixings. This elevated position cleared the tree line and provided an uninterrupted view of the satellite.
The cable was then run neatly down the banking and routed carefully into the cabin. After the cable entry point was sealed, a full signal test was carried out inside. The readings showed strong, stable Freesat levels, confirming that the unusual mounting position was the perfect solution.
With a solid signal in place, the engineer connected and installed the Freesat box for the customer, tested multiple channels and ensured the system was fully operational before leaving the property.
Result
The customer was left with:
- A fully working Freesat satellite system
- A strong signal achieved through a creative tree-mount solution
- Neat and weather-safe cabling run back to the cabin
- A complete setup with the Freesat box installed and tested
What began as a “no signal” issue became a complete success through careful surveying and a willingness to use non-standard mounting techniques.
