A customer contacted We Fit Aerials after finding water in their TV aerial wire. This is a problem that needs dealing with quickly, as rainwater can travel through a damaged coaxial cable and work its way towards the TV equipment inside the property.
Project Overview
This project involved investigating water ingress in a TV aerial cable. The customer had noticed water coming through the aerial wire, which suggested that the external cable, aerial connection or aerial itself had failed somewhere outside.
The aim of the visit was to identify how water was getting into the system, stop the issue from continuing and protect the customer’s TV reception and equipment from further damage.
The Challenge
Water inside a TV aerial cable is not a minor fault. Once rainwater gets into the coaxial cable, it can travel down the line and reach the TV, set-top box or aerial socket inside the home.
This can cause poor reception, picture break-up, signal loss and, in more serious cases, damage to electrical equipment or the surrounding area inside the property.
The customer needed the issue checked properly because replacing only the indoor connector would not solve the problem if the cable or aerial was still allowing water in from outside.
Our Solution
The engineer inspected the aerial system and checked the condition of the external cabling. Where water is present in the aerial wire, the proper repair is usually to replace the affected coaxial cable because the existing cable is no longer reliable.
If the aerial itself is allowing water into the connection, that may also need replacing to stop the same problem returning. The repair has to deal with the cause of the water ingress, not just the visible water at the TV end.
Once the damaged cable and any faulty external parts have been dealt with, the system can be tested again to make sure the TV signal is stable and safe to use.
The Result
The customer received clear advice about why water was appearing in the aerial wire and what needed to be done to repair it correctly.
By dealing with the cable fault properly, the risk of water reaching the TV equipment was reduced and the customer had a safer, more reliable aerial system going forward.

Why This Job Matters
This case study shows why water in a TV aerial wire should never be ignored. It usually means the cable or aerial connection has failed outside, allowing rainwater to enter the system and travel down towards the TV.
By replacing the damaged cable and checking whether the aerial is also at fault, We Fit Aerials can stop the water ingress at source and help protect the customer’s TV, reception and home from further problems.
