Fitting a communal TV aerial on a caravan site.
Here is a case study of a job we are currently working on.
We are currently doing a retro fit installation to a TV system on a caravan park in Cumbria.
We were initially called as one of the lodge type accommodation was having problems with reception. The system is an IRS system that feeds satellite and Freeview to each unit.
When we arrived the first thing our engineer did was check the input signal that was coming into the distribution cabinet, he discovered that the signal was very poor. On investigation we found that the aerial was sited with a cabin in the line of sight so it would require moving to a different location that was in a position to receive a good Freeview signal, but also didn’t obstruct any of the far reaching views from the exclusive cabins. After taking a number of signal readings from different locations it was decided that the aerial could be moved to the top of the park, but there is one major issue, the top of the park is 300mtr away from the TV distribution equipment.
We have come up with a cost effective way to sort out the issue, we are going to install fibre optic cable and fibre optical IRS equipment. With fibre there is absolutely no signal loss so we could if required place the aerial 10km away from the site!
The main cost to this install is to bury the cables but the owner of the site is doing this with advice from our engineer.
