High Gain Aerial Upgrade for Accrington Bungalow

This case study shows an engineer’s view over a rainy Accrington while replacing a set of old TV aerials on a bungalow. The customer had been experiencing ongoing Freeview reception problems, with certain channels breaking up or disappearing completely. Our aim was to restore a strong and stable multiroom Freeview signal to all three rooms in the property.

The existing aerial system was outdated and no longer capable of providing the level of performance needed for modern digital TV. A full replacement was the only reliable way to fix the issue.

Initial Inspection

On arrival, our aerial fitter inspected the old aerials and carried out full signal tests at every TV point. All three rooms showed extremely weak readings. The aerials were ageing, exposed to years of weather damage, and were not suitable for today’s Freeview broadcast signals.

The engineer explained to the customer that the weak reception couldn’t be fixed with adjustments alone. A new high gain aerial, new cabling, and an external splitter would be required to deliver a proper multiroom Freeview setup.

The Replacement Work

Once the customer agreed, the engineer installed a brand-new high gain aerial positioned for the best possible signal strength. High gain aerials are ideal for areas with variable or weaker reception, such as certain parts of Accrington.

The old cables were removed and replaced with new coax runs, ensuring a clean, uninterrupted signal path. An external weatherproof splitter was fitted outside to distribute the signal evenly to all three rooms. Using an external splitter also kept the system simple, reliable, and easy to maintain.

Every cable was clipped neatly, sealed correctly, and routed with care to keep the installation tidy and protected from the elements.

Result

The finished installation delivered:

  • A high gain aerial providing strong and stable Freeview reception
  • New coaxial cabling to all three rooms
  • Weatherproof external splitter for reliable distribution
  • Perfect picture quality on every Freeview TV

The customer immediately noticed the improvement, with all channels working clearly and no more signal break-up across the home.

Our Final Say

Replacing outdated aerials and worn cabling is often the fastest and most effective way to fix reception issues—especially in multiroom setups. A high gain aerial combined with proper distribution equipment ensures consistent performance in every room.

If you’re experiencing weak channels, pixelation, or missing Freeview stations, we can test the signal, diagnose the issue, and install the right equipment to get every TV in your home working perfectly.
